Welcome to the first iteration of ✨ Sustainability This Week ✨ - our weekly blog posts where we talk about easily accessible sustainable products, as well as sustainability initiatives we find meaningful! This week, we’re highlighting Cosmetics products, as voted by our Instagram followers (check us out!). It is important to note that the products we cover in this post were found by our team, and are not sponsored by any organization. We are bringing products to you, the reader, in an effort to move the needle of sustainability to the green. Let’s begin!
Gisou - Honey Infused Lip Oil
Where to buy: Gisou
Price: $32 USD (as of Jan. 24, 2023)
The first product we’ll be covering is Gisou’s Honey Infused Lip Oil 🍯. Readers who are immersed in the fashion and makeup side of social media may have heard of this up-and-coming brand. From Sophia Mosca to Monet McMichael, this company has been all the rave. Their lip oil costs $32 USD (as of January 24, 2023), and has hundreds of five-star reviews. Although it competes with the likes of Dior’s Lip Glow, this isn’t your normal lip oil. One of Gisou’s key ingredients is honey, and they make sure to use this product in a sustainable manner.

Greenzla - Reusable Cotton Pads
Where to buy: Amazon
Price: $12.99 USD (as of Jan. 24, 2023)
The second product for this week’s blog post is Greenzla’s Reusable Makeup Remover Pads 🫧. Many of our readers may be familiar with cotton pads following the controversy surrounding single-use makeup wipes. Reusable cotton pads that can be washed are the solution. This specific product can be found on Amazon with over 30,000 positive reviews, and is certified as carbon neutral. Priced at $12.99 USD as of January 24, 2023, this is a great alternative for disposable cotton pads and makeup wipes. It comes with 20 pieces and a convenient laundry bag. The great thing is, you can save up to 25% every year by purchasing reusable cotton pads instead of disposable ones!
By purchasing this product, we reduce some of the following impacts on our environment:
Producing one pound of cotton demands exorbitant amounts of water (~1,320 gallons!!)
Soil erosion & degradation
Conventional cotton production includes the use of harmful fertilizers and pesticides
Sephora’s Clean + Planet Positive Initiative
Learn more: Sephora
The sustainability initiative we’re covering this week, staying with the Cosmetics theme, is Sephora’s Clean + Climate Positive seal. The rise of trends such as the “clean girl aesthetic” has led many to shift to products that contain less harmful chemicals. This shift has also led to more sustainable and environmentally-friendly products, reducing the use of harmful chemicals both in production and in the product’s afterlife. Acting as a guide to environmentally friendly products, Sephora’s dedication to sustainability and planet-care causes includes “brands meeting standards for climate commitments, sustainable sourcing, responsible packaging, and environmental giving.” We hope other companies in Cosmetics and similar industries work towards sustainability and environmental initiatives of their own, to create a better tomorrow.
